Granit Xhaka wants to remain Switzerland captain, Blick reported on Monday night.

Xhaka announced today that he had not been vaccinated for Covid-19 and had only provided a vaccination certificate.

In Switzerland, writings about this case are not banned.

"Blick", citing sources, wrote that Xhaka wants to remain captain of Switzerland. He has not been called up for the next four matches, although he was initially on the list.

He proposed to the federation that he remain out of the team and this was accepted by the Swiss federation.

But Xhaka has no plans to give up the national team and the captain's armband. He also has the support of the Swiss federation.

Former Albania player, Taulant Xhaka, has come to the defense of his brother Granit.

He said in an Instagram post that "everyone makes mistakes" and that "nobody is perfect."

"Please never forget one thing: what Granit Xhaka, my brother, has done for Switzerland all these years. How much heart, passion and pride he has shown for this country and this shirt," Taulant Xhaka wrote.

Taulant also addressed journalists, emphasizing that "you too have made mistakes in your life."

"The essential thing is not to never make mistakes, but to acknowledge them, accept them, and learn from them."

Granit Xhaka admitted on Instagram on Monday morning that he had purchased a COVID-19 vaccination certificate in 2022.

The legal consequences for Xhaka will be determined in a court case in Lucerne. According to Blick, a hearing is scheduled for October 6. Xhaka has not been included in the squad for the four Nations League matches.

The Lucerne Public Prosecutor's Office plans to question Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka.

Xhaka admitted on Monday that he had not been vaccinated for COVID-19 and instead received a fake certificate that "proved" vaccination.

Simon Kopp, a spokesman for the Public Prosecutor's Office, told the newspaper "Blick" by phone on Monday that it is up to Xhaka "to contact us through his lawyer if he wants to request an earlier hearing date."

"The ball is in his court," says Kopp.

He stressed that "what matters to us is what Granit Xhaka says during questioning."

Kopp emphasizes that the proceedings will not be conducted through the media.

"A post on social media does not end the proceedings; they will continue as normal. We will ask Xhaka about his social media confession during questioning," Kopp said.

Switzerland gathered in Belek, Turkey, on Monday. Xhaka remained in England.

Pierluigi Tami, the director of the Swiss national football team, also spoke about Granit Xhaka's case on Monday. Tami was due to step down from his position after the World Cup, but will remain in charge until the end of this edition of the Nations League.

Xhaka announced on Monday that he had not been vaccinated for Covid-19, but had only obtained a vaccination certificate.

"I'm glad Granit reacted today and took responsibility. We can all make mistakes. The most important thing afterwards is to admit them. I really appreciate his reaction. It's important for the team, as we start an important period after the World Cup. His case should not be a priority. So for the moment this has been decided. Vaccination was never mandatory for us, only a recommendation," said Tami.

Tami has stressed that the team would need a leader like Xhaka to integrate the young players. Xhaka has been released from this group, at his suggestion.
