Re-reading Jakov Xoxa and Petro Markos - recognition of the masters of literature

The 100th anniversary of the birth of Jakov Xoxa and the 110th anniversary of the birth of Petro Markos were marked on Wednesday at the Book Fair in Pristina, and activities like these were deemed necessary for recognizing their importance and recognizing the values of Albanian literature by the new generation. Both writers have been described as unrepeatable in the world of Albanian letters

The portraits of the pens of Albanian letters are always images of the Book Fair in Pristina. The largest exhibition of this kind has always given importance to the commemorations of literary icons, and on the second day, the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jakov Xoxa and the 110th anniversary of the birth of Petro Markos were marked.

In two separate activities at the Amphitheater of the Youth Palace, the narratives of the two writers brought perspective and history. All that could be said to be common to the two commemorations is the immortality that their work gave them.

The poet and researcher Agim Vinca, accompanied by the writer and researcher from Albania, Behar Gjoka, opened their memories and analyzes over the years and started the organization by revealing details about the work of Jakov Xoxa, focusing on the titles "Dead River", " Flower of salt" of "White South". Xoxa's work before and after his death was recorded as a theme.

"I think, as Heidegger says, 'the house of being is language', so it is literature, and to return to the hearth of master writers like Xoxa, like Petro Marko, like Koliqi, like Kadare, is one of those chances that should not be missed, because The fair is an added window to understand what happens to the spirit of the Albanian being and the spirit of Albanian literature. In this sense, I would say that the organizers are doing well to see them in this plan of a commemoration. There are two types of memories: the human one and the text one. Their lyrics are an inescapable reminder. It is good to come back, because by doing this we see what they did, we become better as a relationship, we understand the path of the human being, the Albanian being in this case", said Behar Gjoka.

Agim Vinca said that Jakov Xoxa is undoubtedly one of the most important Albanian writers of the second half of the 20th century.

"A creator who left behind a work, which has rare peers in Albanian literature. One of his early stories, a beautiful, almost legendary account of a musky shepherd is entitled 'The Captain'. "Xoxa could be called the captain of Myzeqe in the field of letters and especially Albanian prose," said Vinca.

He remembered Xoxa beyond his work.

"Jakov Xoxa died young, 56 years old. Xoxa lived with his work, with his heroes, so much so that, as his wife and biographer testifies, he happened to see his characters in his dreams as if they were living people", said Vinca, while he remembered his physique. "His appearance and portrait radiated openness, kindness, generosity and nobility. His straight body, regular face, white hair, easy smile made his virtues stand out even more", said Vinca. He stopped at his masterpiece "Dead River" mentioning other works and characters.

"Xoxa created the most beautiful couple of Albanian literature, Vita and Adili. Walk and find another more beautiful, more sculpted and more meaningful. The love between the Kosovar and the musketeer embodied artistically with rare beauty and precision is undoubtedly a genius idea of Xoxa, who as a man and writer stood above the religious and regional prejudices deeply rooted in people's consciousness", he said, as he also mentioned the other characters of this work and many others of Xoxa.

Although many approaches have been revealed about Xoxa's creativity, Behar Gjoka did not leave it without mentioning that such conclusions in this commemorative organization can be relative. Their importance has been said to be that it brings back the former authors among the new generations.

"I think that Albanian literature is in the dimension of real communication. The master of the novel, the master of the narrative, the master of the composition like Jakov Xoxa, I would say that everything that has been said is still debatable. The reality of his books is a universe that, no matter how we explain it, we cannot go to the matter, to the word, to that word that he speaks to the reader above. Is there such an author in Albanian literature? It's hard to find it", said Gjoka.

Four hours later, in the same place, the headline was Petro Marko and his work. Aleksandër Çipa and Behar Gjoka talked about the author who produced 78 works in 16 years of life.

"At Petro Marko is an attempt to bring him back to the reader, because of the values that his poetry carries and conveys, because of the values that his novels convey. I think that rereading is a process that helps us understand the shortcomings we had in reading. It gives us a hand to understand that the text of each writer has other foci, and in this case especially the texts of Petro Markos", said Gjoka.

He showed in brief points about the way the author brought the works.

"Petro Marko is the writer who connects two literary periods: the period of the generation of the 30s with contemporary literature, being in both planes, in both times, in both these states a master of his writing", he said.

The Book Fair on Wednesday, in addition to two commemorative events, also brought two book promotions and readings of passages by Viktor Canosinaj.
