Scottish Labour Party leader Anas Sarwar called on British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to resign on Monday, saying the distraction must end and the leadership in Downing Street must change.

His request, made at a press conference, comes after Starmer's communications director, Tim Allan, resigned, a day after the prime minister's chief of staff also resigned.

On Sunday, Morgan McSweeney stepped down from the prime minister's senior team, saying he takes "full responsibility" for advising Starmer to appoint Peter Mandelson as US ambassador in 2024.

Asked earlier if Starmer would resign, Downing Street dismissed the possibility, saying "the prime minister is focusing on the job at hand."

Both Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy and Chancellor Rachel Reeves have expressed their support for the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch said Starmer had lost control of his party and claimed the country was "not being governed".
