The PSD requests the Parliament to amend the Law on Specialized Chambers

The Social Democratic Party has submitted to the Assembly of Kosovo a request through which it is seeking the amendment of Articles 6 and 16 of the Law on Specialized Chambers and the Office of the Specialized Prosecutor. PSD took the initiative after the conviction of the former KLA commander, Salih Mustafa. In opposition to this sentence, this non-parliamentary party has also announced a protest for Saturday

The Social Democratic Party is seeking to change the Law on Specialized Chambers and the Specialized Prosecutor's Office.

In the Assembly of Kosovo, its head, Dardan Molliqaj, submitted on Wednesday the request for the amendment of articles 6 and 16 of this law.

According to the PSD, both articles are not in accordance with international law and conventions on war crimes

"One has to do with the subject convention, which deals with the subject of prosecution by this court, which is the treatment based on Article 6, where only KLA crimes are prosecuted. Therefore we believe that when crimes are pursued only by one side or mono-ethnic, it is not about justice, but injustice. Consequently, we want to change to return this court to bring justice. The second article that we want to reformulate is Article 16 on individual and command responsibility in the alleged actions that may have taken place", said Molliqaj.

Molliqaj submitted this request on behalf of each member of the Assembly, with the exception of those from the Serbian List.

"Today I call on all deputies to be up to the task, as they are representatives of the people of Kosovo. The people are clear that they cannot stand this injustice coming from the Special Court", said Molliqaj.

Days ago, the Special Court sentenced the former KLA commander, Sali Mustafa, to 26 years in prison, and to oppose this, the Social Democratic Party has announced a protest for Saturday.

The sentence against Mustafa, known in the war with the nickname "Cali", was described as severe by German MP Knut Abraham on Wednesday. However, he said that it should be accepted by everyone.

"It is a harsh verdict, which of course evoked the memory of the terrible events that happened against the Kosovar Albanians at that time, but also the suffering of many Serbs", he said.

The Law on the Special Court was approved in August 2015 by the Assembly.

Two years later, an initiative was taken to abolish this court, but it did not have the support of all the deputies.

This court made the first arrests in 2020, and among those arrested was the president of that time, Hashim Thaçi.
