"Lament of the Earth" by Donika Rudi, premiere in Belgium

It is a work that "tries to explore the existence of each of us with a call, a call to listen and act, before it is too late". This is her final description and she will be heard for the first time in Belgium. From the title, it sounds intriguing. It is called "Lament of the Earth", composed by the composer from Kosovo, Donika Rudi. On Friday, the premiere will be performed at the "Belgian Music Days" festival in Eupen, Belgium. As written in the announcement, this work will be part of the concert together with four other authors of FeBeME, the association of Belgian composers for electroacoustic music where the composer Donika Rudi has been a member since 2010.

The "Belgian Music Days" biennial is organized by Archipel Vlaanderen (ComAV), the Forum of Belgian Composers, "Kunstenpunt", "Point Culture", FeBemE-BeFEM, Matrix, ISCM Vlaanderen and the Union of Belgian Composers. It starts on the 11th and ends on the 13th of March.

"Lament of the Earth" is a work dedicated to the effects of climate change on Earth. As the composer Rudi has explained, it was built based on the "warming stripes" graphic, which visually portrays the long-term temperature change on the Earth's surface.

"The beginning of the work focuses on organic sounds mainly in a calm and harmony, while the climax will be reached with transformed and deformed sounds. The work addresses what we all feel but don't speak, look but don't see, something that affects us, but we remain indifferent", is the explanation of the composer specialized in acousmatic, electroacoustic music, member of the Canadian Electroacoustic Community, now and director of the "ReMusica" festival in Kosovo for 12 years. "Lamentation...", based on the description, seems like a kind of research and reflection between man and nature.

"Every living being is an integral part of the Earth, as such we rise and return to it. This work is the medium between the listener and his long-lost genome…”, is written in the description where the lines are also broken: “She spoke, but we listened?/ She asked, but we answered?/ She gasped, but did we stammer? / We are, until she is!”
