Seasonal flu vaccines are expected to arrive in late October

Vaccines against the seasonal flu will arrive at the end of October, the Ministry of Health has announced. So far, 140 doses of this vaccine have been purchased through UNICEF, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, Faik Hoti, told KOHA.

He stated that since the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Health has made the payments for the provision of the vaccine against the seasonal flu.

"The 140 vaccines that are expected to arrive at the end of October in Kosovo will be distributed in the vaccination centers, and the priority groups that will be vaccinated are the pregnant, the elderly, and people with chronic diseases," he said.

This year, vaccination will begin earlier in order to protect citizens from seasonal flu in the fall and winter season, said the Ministry of Health. Last year, citizens' interest in getting vaccinated was very high. But they did not arrive until December, while in pharmacies they were sold for 17,5 euros.

Hoti said that the international institutions in the field of health that give professional recommendations have suggested that there is no problem for people who have received the vaccine against Covid-19 to also receive the vaccine against the seasonal flu.

"This vaccine does not prevent receiving the other vaccine. This year we have considered that the number of vaccines provided will cover the priority groups and in this respect there will be no problem regarding the vaccination against covid19 or the seasonal flu, he said.

Infectologists in Kosovo have previously said that it is necessary for citizens to be vaccinated against the seasonal flu as soon as possible.

According to infectious disease specialist Sali Ahmeti, seasonal flu infection lowers the population's immunity, so they are more at risk of getting sick with COVID-19.
