Today marks 32 years since the then delegates of the Assembly of Kosovo approved the Constitutional Declaration of July 2, 1990.
The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said that the announcement of the Declaration of July 2 was a heroic and legal act, refusing to submit to Serbian oppression.
She stated that the 114 delegates of the Assembly of Kosovo at that time took the great courage to advance the issue of equal treatment of the Albanian people under extraordinary circumstances.
"More than three decades ago, women and men had the courage to give Kosovo the right direction, to create the basis for the subjectivity of the future state, so on this anniversary I thank everyone who put a stone in our historic project for the state . The foundations of the state were built on the decision of the delegates of July 2, so today Kosovo is an independent, free and sovereign state!", said Osmani.
The declaration of July 2 was the act that would mark the historic institutional step of Kosovo's independence, which took place outside the Parliament building, under conditions of siege by large police and military forces.
The Constitutional Declaration on Kosovo as an independent and equal entity within the former Yugoslav federation was announced in Pristina by the Albanian delegates of the Assembly of Kosovo.
