Letter to the Reader — Why We're Asking for Your Support Contribute"Today, the Albanian Parliament spoke with one voice for the truth of the Kosovo liberation war and for the dignity of those who carried that historical burden on their shoulders. It was a voice that came not only from the parliament hall, but from the memory of a nation that knows what it means to fight for freedom. The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs welcomes this declaration and is fully committed to its implementation in every international forum, with dignity, dedication and unwavering respect for the historical truth. The Kosovo Liberation Army's war was not a dark chapter, but a light in a dark time for the entire Albanian nation. It was a fight for survival, for dignity and for the fundamental right of a people to live freely in their own land. This truth is not a matter of political interpretation; it is part of our collective conscience," Spiropali wrote.

She said that Albania stands by Kosovo, with full solidarity and with the belief that justice must be impartial.
"The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs will take every diplomatic step to defend this truth, to oppose every attempt to equate the victim with the aggressor, and to ensure that the voices of Albania and Kosovo are heard clearly at every international table. Because the freedom of Kosovo is a common chapter of our history, and its dignity is the dignity of the entire Albanian nation," Spiropali wrote.
The Albanian Parliament has approved with 92 votes in favor the declaration of innocence of the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
Through this statement, the Assembly provides support to the former leaders, while also demanding their release from the Special Court.
The statement states that the KLA was a legitimate liberation movement that fought for human rights, while emphasizing that the Albanian Parliament notes with concern that the Special Prosecution's request risks creating a dangerous distortion of history, equating the legitimate struggle of a people for survival and freedom with the crimes of the Serbian regime, which committed ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity against the people of Kosovo.
"The Assembly of Albania declares full and unconditional support for the leaders of the KLA, who were and remain representatives of the aspirations and rights of the people of Kosovo for freedom and self-determination. Their struggle was just, based on universal principles of human rights. It requests the Specialized Chambers in The Hague, the international community and international justice institutions to declare the innocence of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selim, through a fair and impartial process that respects and does not violate the dignity of the liberation war of the people of Kosovo," it says.
