Barcelona still in trouble with the registration of players

Registration of Barcelona players and financial problems are continuing this edition for the team from "Camp Nou".

Spanish media reported on Monday that Barcelona are continuing to drag out signings as they have yet to sign Marcos Alonso among several other players. The La Liga champion is plagued by the financial issue, which is preventing him from registering in La Liga not only Alonso but also the central defender Inigo Martinez and the goalkeeper Inaki Pena. At Barcelona, they are making maximum efforts to register at least the full-back, Alonso, whom they want to keep in the team at all costs. Likewise, Alonso himself has no intention of leaving Camp Nou, nor is he listening to offers, as he wants to honor the contract he renewed some time ago until next year. Alonso, along with Martinez and Pena, have had to watch from the stands for Barcelona's first two games this season, as the club's problems with La Liga's financial fairplay rules are restricting the club from signing players.

Barcelona have struggled to sign players in recent years and have sold assets in order to be able to do so. Last edition, Barcelona almost managed to register four out of five new signings 24 hours before the start of the campaign. La Liga's strict spending rules set each club a spending cap that applies to first-team transfers and wages, whether for players or wider staff. The spending limit for each club is calculated based on the financial data that each team submits shortly before the summer transfer window. Data considered include previous win and loss, expected revenue for the upcoming season and savings among other factors. Xavi's side seemed to get a big boost earlier this summer when they sold 29.5 percent of Barca Studios to LIBERO Football Finance for around €120 million. In August last year, the club sold shares. Player sales this summer will help ease Barca's struggles, but financial issues mean one of football's most decorated clubs has had to deal with massive debts that stood at more than €1 billion in March. Coming into the summer, Barcelona's wage bill was around €681m, with La Liga's cap set at around €470m, the club needed to cut wages drastically. All this means that until now, among others, Alonso but also Martinez and Pena have not registered - despite Barca's desperation to do so. After the first two games in La Liga, Barcelona has accumulated four points. It drew without goals with Getafe, while it defeated Cadiz 2:0.
