Two statements by Albin Kurti given in an interview with Koha have sparked reactions. For one, the mayor of Skenderaj, Sami Lushtaku, has asked Kurti to retract it within 24 hours. For the other, the Special Prosecution has taken Chief Prosecutor Blerim Isufaj into its defense.
The Mayor of Skenderaj, Sami Lushtaku, has asked the acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti to withdraw his accusation made on the "Interaktiv" show on KTV, that he wanted to hit the Prime Minister's escort with an official vehicle.
Lushtaku's lawyer, Labinot Vata, said that the request to withdraw the statement emphasized that it was tendentious, serious and defamatory.
"Through these statements, you have publicly attributed dangerous, violent and potentially illegal behavior to Mr. Sami Lushtaku, without any judicial decision, final institutional act or legally confirmed evidence that would support such claims. These statements are made even more serious by the fact that they were given by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, in a national medium with wide visibility, which gives them special institutional weight and great public influence," Lushtaku's request to Kurti states.
The letter requests that acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti publish the correction and provide a public clarification regarding his statements made against Sami Lushtaku. It is requested that these be done within 24 hours.
The warning was issued after Kurti said that Lushtaku, using an official vehicle, wanted to hit his escort during the campaign in Skenderaj for the February 2025 elections.

"It was just me and my close protection there. Do you think there was something wrong with one of my bodyguards, only then will we be able to say that it didn't happen to me. Then there is a police process for this but no one was arrested for this, although there was an attempt to cause danger," Kurti said on Monday night.
Like Kurti, Lushtaku has said that there is an official police report on this case.
KOHA has requested information from the Police regarding this case, but has not received a response.
And, the authorities have responded to another accusation by Kurti.
During the interview, he said that the Special Prosecutor, Blerim Isufaj, is to blame for the situation in the prosecution. The prosecution called this statement political in nature and unfounded.

"The Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo reiterates its commitment to the independent, professional and impartial exercise of its mandate, in the function of the rule of law and the protection of the public interest. The Special Prosecution and its Chief Prosecutor, Mr. Blerim Isufaj, do not comment on statements of a political nature, especially in cases where they are untrue and not based on facts or official institutional procedures. The SPRK assesses that credibility, institutional and professional integrity are built on work, transparency, accountability and respect for the law, and not on political statements," the Prosecution's statement reads.
Isufaj was proposed by the Prosecutorial Council for Chief State Prosecutor, but was not appointed by former President Vjosa Osmani. This council only announced a vacancy for Chief Prosecutor on Monday, having refused to make another proposal for years.
