Ismail Kadare's house in Tirana turns into a museum

Writer Ismail Kadare celebrates his 83rd birthday today. But, this anniversary comes differently for the great man of Albanian letters, whose house will soon be a museum to be visited by the citizens of Tirana and tourists visiting the capital.

After the decision of the Municipal Council, the Municipality of Tirana, in cooperation with the well-known architect Elisabetta Terragni, have started without wasting time the work for the return to the museum of the house of the great Albanian writer on Dibra Street, which in the future will be a destination touristic not only for those passionate about Kadare's works.

Mayor Erion Veliaj called this initiative a very special experience. "I am very happy that on the occasion of the birthday of the great Ismail Kadare, we have started work on what is not only a house museum, but is an experience in the heart of Tirana, in a palace that carries a lot of history; a building that sent Max Velo to prison for years, a building where the writer Dritëro Agolli was a neighbor of Kadare, said Veliaj.

He underlined that thanks to this intervention, another jewel covered in dust will emerge, transformed. "Thanks to the project of Elisabetta Terragni, the famous architect of the "House of Leaves", we are getting our hands on a jewel covered in dust in the center of Tirana, which has all the possibilities to transform perhaps one of the most talked about buildings in Tirana . We worked a lot with the buildings of Tirana, with the administrators, to arrange them with hooded clothing, but this intervention is special. Of course, we will make sure that the palace is transformed and goes to the final stage as designed by the great Max Velo, but the epicenter will be the apartment of Ismail Kadare, in which he lived from the 70s to the 90s, and where he wrote some of his masterpieces", said the mayor.

The well-known Italian architect, Elisabetta Terragni, called this project very important for the new generation, but also for Albania. "This is a place to celebrate literature and a way to see inside the world of the writer Ismail Kadare, to understand the time when he worked in Albania.

also Kadare is remembered through his work Culture Kadare is remembered through his work

The work to build this space is based on the great help he and Helena gave, but also on the in-depth excavations for his documents and life. People can come here and learn more about him, study more about him, and at the same time do in-depth studies on how people lived in Tirana at that time and under those conditions. I think this will be important for the new generation, for the children, but also for Albania and the foreigners who visit Albania", said Elisabetta Terragni/Gazeta Shqip.
