Zeqiri: 86 resignations from the Police this year

The President of the Kosovo Police Union, Imer Zeqiri, has told Ekonomia Online that 86 members of the Police have resigned since January. He said that since the formation of this institution until the end of 2022, over 2.200 officials left this institution.

According to him, the large number of departures has come as a result of bad conditions and not dignified wages. He even said that even after retirement they do not have the proper treatment, being paid only 100 euros.

"Resignations in the Kosovo Police have occurred even earlier, since the formation of the Kosovo Police until December 31, 2022, we have had over 2 resignations, recorded to be almost 200 per year. However, in different periods these have been in some years more or in some years less. Only for this year, from January until now, we have 100 resignations, and most of these resignations are due to conditions and well-being, and a salary that is not dignified, or not enough to ensure the existence of a family. There is no health and life insurance, there are no retirement laws, because when police officers finish their careers after the age of 86, they get a 56 euro pension," said Zeqiri.

Commenting on the actions of the Police, he said that they have the capacity and will to protect order and peace, but that they should have a free hand. While he said that they should have a higher budget, EO reports.

"The Kosovo Police has the capacity, but above the capacity it has the will and the desire to protect order, public peace and the integrity of this country. Therefore, I strongly believe that he has both the capacity and the opportunity to protect this country, he just needs free hands, which he has free hands to act in any situation legally and constitutionally. Otherwise, if it is a ban on the combat capacities of other countries, it is definitely another matter that you can assess only with the experts. I think that a higher budget should have been allocated, as far as the work of the Police or security institutions is concerned, because these needs are extremely large, either for welfare or for other logistical means or whatever, the Kosovo Police or the institutions of security situation can also occur with additional, unplanned requests, therefore he thinks that a higher budget had to be allocated".

The opposition parties PDK and AAK have expressed their disappointment with the level of dangerousness allowances for members of the Kosovo Police (KP), regardless of the demands of the latter that this categorization be reviewed once again by the Government, reports Ekonomia Online.

PDK and AAK have said that the members of the KP are disappointed with the non-fulfillment of their demands and that the Government should take into account these demands, especially for the Elite Units, since according to them, they have been invested in those units for decades and now they should not to be neglected. The deputy of PDK, Ganimete Musliu, said that they expected with regret that the last meeting of Prime Minister Albin Kurti with the representatives of the Special Interviewing Unit ended without an agreement.

"I regretfully waited for the end of the meeting because, like every other meeting without results of this government, the meeting with the elite units of the Kosovo police was also without results. The Government of Kosovo does not take a single step towards fulfilling the demands of the Kosovo Police, this is very painful and depressing, because the security of our country is being put at risk".

She said that the Government is telling them that there is an increase in the budget in the security sector, but according to her, the Police of the country is working without the essential conditions and for this reason they are leaving their jobs.

"All government ministers, but also Prime Minister Kurti himself, say that we have an increase in the budget for this department, for that, but if we say that we have an increase for the budget of the Ministry of Order, and on the other hand, we have no shoes for the Kosovo Police, and that every day because of the demotivation that this Government is doing to you, they are taking off their uniforms, this shows enough about the lack of work that this Government is doing", she said.

The deputy of AAK, Time Kadrijaj, said that the prime minister is destroying everything that has been built over the years, since he is not meeting the demands of the KP.

"Albin Kurti will destroy everything that is good in this country, he has misbehaved with the war veterans and is misbehaving with our elite, the special units who are heroes of Kosovo. Because if it had not been for these special units, maybe the situation in the north would have de-escalated because of all that weaponry that entered Kosovo, because of the large group of terrorists who attacked Kosovo", she said.
