The file is under review, while the investigation of this prosecution focuses on the eventual responsibility of the officials for possible negligence, which may have influenced the commission of the murder.
This was confirmed by the acting chief prosecutor of the Special Prosecution Office, Dren Paca, at a press conference, explaining that the competence of this prosecution in this case relates only to suspicions against officials, while the other parts of the case are being handled by the Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina.
"I can confirm that the Special Prosecution Office has received, for review, about three days ago, the file on the change, or on the suspicions regarding police officers, officials, or prosecutors and judges who may eventually be suspected due to their inaction, that negligence may have occurred and, as a result, the case as it happened or the commission of the murder. So, yes, the Special Prosecution Office has this case under review, but only regarding police officers, prosecutors and judges, eventually as they may be, may be involved in the case, while other cases, I believe you have already been informed by the Chief State Prosecutor's Office, are being handled by the Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina," said Paca.
Arlinda Zekaj was killed on October 26 in Vitomirica, Peja, and the suspect in the murder is her brother-in-law.
Before she was killed, she had reported domestic violence and sought protection from responsible institutions.
Her murder sparked protests in Pristina, where citizens and activists demanded justice for the victim and accountability from the institutions that had handled the case.
