OVL-UCK sends letter to Grenell, demands closure of Special Court

The Kosovo Liberation Army War Veterans Organization (OVL-UCK) has sent a letter to the former US envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Richard Grenell, requesting a review of the trial of the defendants in the Specialist Chambers, a financial audit and an independent investigation into the functioning of this court.

In a lengthy letter to the former US official, veterans have called for the Specialist Chambers to be closed, saying they are "a disgrace to American justice and American values".

“Honorable Ambassador, we are addressing you not as politicians, but as veterans addressing another veteran. Brothers in arms. Defenders of freedom. We are asking you to raise this issue with your administration. American taxpayers have not sent their hard-earned money to Europe to fund a court that violates the values ​​on which America was built. President Trump is rewriting the outdated rules of political control over independent justice, and under these new rules, this court must be closed. It is a disgrace to American justice and American values. We demand a full review, a financial audit, and an independent investigation into how this court operates and how its officials live like kings while our freedom fighters are kept in cells just for defending it,” the letter states.

Veterans have further said that the Specialist Chambers have lost their purpose, saying they have become a political weapon, while they have asked Grenell and the administration of President Donald Trump to stop "this witch hunt."

OVL-UCK added that veterans have helped build a democratic Kosovo by "turning fighters into citizens."

"We have faced justice before (at the Hague Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia), and we have not run away. Our leaders then voluntarily resigned to prove the purity of our struggle, because when justice is fair, the truth wins. And the Specialist Chambers? This is not justice. This is a witch hunt. President Trump knows better than anyone that when justice is hijacked by political elites, it becomes a weapon to silence patriots. This very court has become a tool to silence those who brought peace, stopped genocide, and defended freedom," the letter states.

According to the veterans' organization, the defendants in The Hague are having their voices suppressed and "this is not justice, but a staged political trial."

"If freedom has meaning, if justice is not just a word but a principle, then this cannot be tolerated. We fought against Milosevic to stop this very kind of abuse. And we will speak up again. America was with us when we needed it most. And now we ask you again, please, do not let this court write a false history. Do not let corrupt elites turn veterans into villains. This is not just a cry for help, it is a call to defend freedom, again," it continues.
