A few hours before the protest by Albanian students in North Macedonia, it was announced that the Hani i Elezit-Bllacë border crossing would be closed, due to what authorities said were "technical problems in the registration system in North Macedonia."
According to the first announcement from the National Center for Border Management, the closure was made at 13:40 p.m., with information from the North Macedonian Police, because, as stated, the entry/exit registration system has failed, which has caused the Macedonian authorities to completely stop the movement of people, vehicles and buses.
As a result, long lines of vehicles have formed on both sides of the border.
Mevlan Ademi, the leader of the student protest, immediately reacted on social media, calling for Albanians to be allowed to enter the border. He warned that if there is no swift intervention, the students will march towards the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
"Immediately release our Albanian brothers detained at the border crossing. We demand immediate action and permission for their entry without delay. If there is no rapid intervention and urgent solution, we will be forced to march towards the Ministry of Internal Affairs," the student writes.
Subsequently, in a second announcement from the National Center for Border Management, it was announced that as of 13:55 p.m., the police of this country have allowed circulation again, but with double checks and manual registration of entries and exits.
