The Association of Municipalities expresses concern about the government's 2027 budget planning for municipalities

government

The executive director of the Association of Kosovo Municipalities (AKM), Sazan Ibrahimi, has expressed concern about the budget allocation (projection) of 908 million euros for municipalities for 2027, saying that, despite the increase in the monetary amount, the participation of the local level in the overall state budget has decreased.

Ibrahimi tells KosovaPress that from 21.7 percent, the participation of municipalities in the 2026 budget, according to the plan for next year, it will decrease to 21.3 percent.

Another concern raised by Ibrahimi is the execution of court decisions related mainly to collective contracts. He announced that this year alone, municipalities have been deprived of around 100 million euros through these decisions, demanding that the financial burden be compensated by the central level.

Ibrahimi announced that the Association of Kosovo Municipalities has addressed a request to Prime Minister Albin Kurti for a meeting with the association's board, in order to discuss these problems. According to him, the last meeting with the Prime Minister was held in October 2024, while they have not yet received a response to the latest request.

In addition to budgetary issues, he has also raised concerns about the non-compensation of damage caused by floods in several municipalities since 2022, as well as the loss of funds from the European Union.
