Aliu after being interviewed by the Special Prosecution: Relieved that I had the opportunity to explain myself

Liburn Ali

Former Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, Liburn Aliu, was interviewed for several hours by the Kosovo Special Prosecution Office.

As the spokesperson for the Special Prosecution Office, Arbnora Luta, announced to KOHA, Aliu was interviewed for the criminal offense of "Abuse of official duty".

"Regarding the matter you have addressed questions about, the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo informs you that the defendant LA has been interviewed as part of investigative actions regarding the criminal offense of 'Abuse of Official Duty'. Due to the stage of the procedure, we cannot share more information," said Arbnora Luta.

Aliu did not state the reason for the invitation from the Prosecution but stressed that he feels relieved that he has had the opportunity to explain himself. Aliu said that until now he has been defending himself silently against all the accusations for the period when he was a minister in the Kurti Government.

"It is a relief that after two years of silence I had the opportunity to clarify the situation a little before the Prosecutor's Office about all that constant attack and allegation against me which has degraded me so much but which I have responded with silence. For the entire period that I was a minister, I acted in accordance with the law, according to the recommendations of the OKA. There is no decision that can link me to this process. Regarding the claim of inaction, the entire case has been audited by the OKA, there were recommendations and action was taken based on the recommendations. It was a good opportunity that I had the opportunity to clarify all this before the Prosecutor's Office. I am relieved", declared Aliu.

Two years ago, Aliu said he was willing to cooperate with justice after reports of an investigation into the case of the packagers.

As reported, on October 11, 2024, the Basic Court in Pristina sentenced Naser Hafiz, who held the position of Acting Director of the Regional River Basin Authority at the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, to one month in pre-trial detention. Hafiz was suspected of illegally initiating the issuance of debt reduction decisions.

The debt that economic operators had towards the Regional River Basin Authority (ARPL) at the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure (MMPHI) was close to 20 million euros.

Hafiz's detention was replaced with house arrest, and later this measure was replaced with a ban "from approaching a certain place or person."

Aliu was a minister until August 2025. Currently, he holds the position of director of the port of Durres in Albania.
