The winner of the "Golden Boot", Lewandowski, warns opposing defenses

European Golden Boot winner Poland's Robert Lewandowski sent a warning to defenses across the continent on Tuesday when he compared himself to a "fine wine" that is still improving.

The Bayern Munich striker also gave warm praise and thanks to his wife, Anna, when he received the top scorer award in European football for last season.

Lewandowski scored 41 times in 29 games for Bayern in the 2020/21 season, breaking Gerd Mueller's great record of 40 goals in a Bundesliga season, set in 1971/72. The Pole's goals tally is the highest in Europe since Cristiano Ronaldo scored 48 goals for Real Madrid in the 2014/15 season.

The 33-year-old striker insists that there are still many goals and titles waiting for him. He insisted that it will be like this for a long time.

"I'm still here and I'll be here for a long time," Lewandowski said.

The Poland striker insisted that age is just a number. He said that he feels very good and admitted that he has never felt better than now.

"I know that with my body I can still play for years at the highest level. I am like good wine and I hope to become even better", insisted the Polish attacker.

This season, Lewandowski has already scored seven goals in the first five rounds of the Bundesliga, where Bayern are the leaders. In all competitions of this edition, Lewa has 11 goals in seven appearances.

This edition, in addition to the championship title, he also aims for other trophies with the Bavarians. Lewandowski gave signs that his intention is to end his career at Bayern, despite interest from other big European teams. The Pole joined Bayern as a free agent in 2014 and has a contract until 2023.

"It's not over yet, we're still hungry for titles," said Lewandowski, who hopes to help Bayern to a Champions League trophy to add to the one they won last year. "I don't need to go to prove myself. With the Champions League I can compete with the best. I am 100 percent focused on Bayern and I don't think about anything else."

In the ceremony held at Bayern's Allianz Arena, the Polish forward was particular in his praise for his wife.

"I have to thank my wife, she is a great support for me and a motivation when things are not going so well," he said.

A former international karateka, Anna Lewandowska is also a nutritionist and oversees her husband's diet.

"I am very proud of him. He is exceptional as a person, as a sportsman, as a partner, as a friend and as a man," insisted Anna.

Lewandowski is only the second Bundesliga player to win the award after Mueller, who won it twice, in 1970 and 1972.

Lionel Messi has won this award a record six times, while Ronaldo has received it four times. However, last season, Messi and Ronaldo were no match for Lewandowski. Messi scored 30 goals, while Ronaldo scored one less.
