The position of the European Union is very clear about what happened on Sunday in the north of Kosovo. It was a terrorist attack, as such it must be treated and investigated, the EU's spokesperson for Foreign Policy and Security, Peter Stano, said today in Brussels.
Stano said this while answering questions about the narrative that is heard in Serbia that those killed were freedom fighters who defended their threshold against a Kosovo terror. He also spoke about the announcement of the day of mourning, which was announced yesterday in Serbia for the murdered attackers.
This EU spokesperson has said that there should be full investigations so that all those responsible for planning, carrying out or being behind this attack are brought to justice.
Regarding the day of mourning, he said that he does not equate terrorists with their victims.
"We have seen that Serbia announced a day of mourning yesterday. On Monday, the EU Office in Pristina flew the flag at half-mast to honor the killed policeman and the injured policemen, victims of the terrorist attack on Sunday. Our position is clear and it was expressed by the high representative [Josep Borrell] on September 24. Moreover, the attackers can never match the victims. Therefore, the EU delegation in Serbia has not put the flag at half-mast", declared Stano.
He also recalled that the European Union fundamentally opposes the comparison or glorification of criminals or terrorists and attempts to honor them.
