The Court of Appeal has confirmed the sentence of 24 years of imprisonment against Skender Qerimaj, for murdering his wife and committing three other criminal offenses.
The Basic Court in Mitrovica, on September 12, 2022, announced a guilty verdict against Qerimaja, sentencing him to a unique sentence of 24 years in prison and a 500 euro fine, for murdering his wife and committing three other criminal offenses, reports "Oath of Justice" .
According to the verdict, the accused Qerimaj was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months of imprisonment for the criminal offense of "Slight Bodily Injury", for "Domestic Violence" he was sentenced to 1 year of imprisonment and a 500 euro fine, for "Aggravated Murder", he was sentenced to 22 years of imprisonment, while for possession of weapons without a permit, to one year of imprisonment.
Against this judgment, an appeal to the Court of Appeal due to the decision regarding the criminal sanction was submitted by the defender of the accused Skender Qerimaj, the lawyer Elvir Imeri, as well as the prosecutor of the case Fetije Bajrami.
The prosecution had proposed that the verdict of the first instance be changed and a harsher sentence be imposed on the accused.

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal on December 23, 2022 rejected these appeals of the parties as unfounded, confirming the verdict of the first instance.
"Examining the case in relation to the sentencing decision, the Court of Appeal finds that the prosecution's complaints that the sentence imposed is lenient and not adequate to the social dangerousness of the criminal offense, while those of the defendant's defense that the sentence is harsh, are not based", the decision states.
Furthermore, according to this decision, the prosecution in the appeal did not present any concrete aggravating circumstances, which the court of first instance did not take into account.
Also, the decision states that the decision of the first instance is fair and legal.
"It turns out that the sentence imposed on the accused is fair and legal and in harmony with the degree of social dangerousness of the criminal offense and the degree of criminal responsibility of the accused, as well as the same is a function of the general preventive but also that individual and that the sentence imposed will achieve the purpose of the sentence provided for in the provisions of Article 38 of the Criminal Procedure Code", the decision states.
Otherwise, the Basic Prosecutor's Office in Mitrovica on May 12, 2022 filed an indictment against Skender Qerimaj.

The case is said to have happened, so that after constant disagreements between them, the accused took a sheet and squeezed the victim's throat with it, causing minor bodily injuries - sprains on the front and side of her both sides of the neck and the left cheek of the face, with temporary health consequences.
With this, he was accused of having committed the criminal offense of "Slight Bodily Injury".
Whereas, in the second point of the indictment, it is stated that the accused Qerimaj on January 1, 2022, at around 10:00, in the joint family house in the village of Llaushë, Municipality of Skenderaj, committed psychological violence with the aim of violating the dignity of another person and that to his wife – now deceased LQ
According to the indictment, it is said that the accused verbally insulted her and told her "get out of the house, you are betraying me", and then their son, now the witness AQ, notified the police, in which case the police arrived at the house of the defendant and send them to the police station.
With this, he was accused of having committed the criminal offense of "Domestic Violence".
Further, in the third point of the indictment, the accused Qerimaj was charged that on January 5, 2022, at around 13:30 p.m. in the village of Llaushë, Municipality of Skënderaj, he intentionally took the life of his wife - now deceased LQ
In the indictment it is stated that after a continuous dispute between them, in the common family home, namely in the living room, the accused asked his minor daughter AQ to bring him a glass of water.
