Milan star Luka Modric has given a long interview to "Corriere Della Sera".
In the interview, the Croatian football icon, among other things, spoke about his grandfather who was killed by Serbian Chetniks.
Modric's grandfather was also named Luka.
"Did Serbian Chetniks kill your grandfather?" was the question for Modric.
"I don't want to talk about this. It opens a big wound for me," said Luka Modric.
"This happened in 1991. I was six years old. One evening my grandfather didn't come home. They went looking for him. They shot him in a field, near the road. He was 66 years old. He had never done anything bad to anyone. I remember that moment. My father sent me to the corpse and said: 'My son, give your grandfather a kiss'. Even today I ask: how can a good man, a righteous man, be killed? Why?"
The Italian journalist then asked Modric why his grandfather was killed.

Modric: I love football very much
"Because it was war. My father was a volunteer. We had to leave everything. Friends, feelings, things. First we fled to Makarska, to a refugee camp. Then to Zadar," Modric said.
He admitted that matches against Serbia are not ordinary.
"I played against them twice, in 2013 in World Cup qualifiers. In Zagreb 2:0 for us, in Belgrade 1:1. In both matches the atmosphere was extremely difficult. They were not normal matches, the fight was still felt and is still felt. I think it will always be like this," said the Croatian legend.
