Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine needs long-range weapons to protect its cities and frontline troops from Russian bombs and drones.

The call came after Russia launched its fifth drone attack on Kiev in two weeks, with Ukraine's air defense systems destroying all the missiles before they reached the capital.

Zelenskyy called on Western allies to allow long-range strikes on Russia, saying Britain should try to persuade partners to lift limits on the use of these weapons, Reuters reports.

NATO members have different approaches to how Ukraine can use the donated weapons.

Some have made it clear that Kiev could use the weapons to carry out attacks inside Russia, while the United States has taken a different approach, allowing its weapons to be used only within Russia's borders against targets that support Russian military operations in Ukraine.

Some of Kiev's allies are reluctant to allow Ukraine to use weapons to strike Russian territory because of concerns that the West could be drawn into conflict with Russia.

The British government said it was up to Ukraine how to use the UK-supplied missiles, as long as international law was respected.
