Pfizer and BioNTech are expected to soon seek approval for their anti-COVID vaccine to be used in children ages 5-11.
Özlem Türeci, chief physician at BioNTech, told the German newspaper "Der Spiegel" that the companies will soon present the results of their study in children under the age of 12 and request that their vaccine be approved for emergency use.
"In the coming weeks, we will present the results of our study, which was conducted among 5-11 year olds all over the world, and we will apply for our vaccine to be approved for this age group," said Türeci.
According to her, the vaccine formula is the same as the one approved for teenagers and adults, but the amount of the dose will be smaller.
Currently, the Pfizer vaccine is only approved for children over the age of 12 in both the United States of America and the European Union.
