The British government is being asked to plan for additional vaccinations during the autumn

The British government should plan for new doses of vaccines for citizens during the autumn months, says the doctors' union and Britain's National Health Service. The booster vaccine is considered the biggest challenge, reports the BBC.

Health leaders say there are many questions that need to be answered, including how long immunity from two doses of the vaccine lasts, and whether children will be vaccinated.

"We should not continue as we are now, with an emergency response", say the unions.

Government sources say the plans will be published soon.

But the final decision will depend on the data from the ongoing tests.

So far, nearly 60 per cent of adults in Britain have received two doses of the anti-Covid vaccine, meaning they are fully vaccinated. And more than four in five adults have taken a dose.

People have rushed to get the shots in recent days, with more than a million bookings made on Friday and Saturday in England, after the vaccination was opened to all citizens over 18.

Ministers have repeatedly said that vaccination is the way to end isolation. England has delayed opening until July 19, mainly to allow more people to be vaccinated.
