Dutch Prime Minister: It is impossible for the EU to completely cut off Russian gas and oil

It is not possible for the European Union to completely cut off the supply of Russian oil and gas, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has warned.

Rutte added that Europe's dependence on Russian oil and gas should be discussed.

"We need to discuss our weaknesses regarding our dependence on Russian oil and Russian gas. I will not pray to cut off our oil and gas supply today from Russia," Rutte said at a joint press conference with his counterpart his French counterpart on Wednesday in Paris, reports CNN.

The bloc needs Russian supply, Rutte stressed, calling it an uncomfortable truth.

On Tuesday, the EU announced plans to cut Russian gas imports by two-thirds this year and eliminate its overall need for oil.

Rutte added that the bloc's sanctions against Russia are "directed" by the Russian leadership, not the people.
