The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has announced that he and the First Lady, Melania Trump, have tested positive for the coronavirus and are now isolated.
The 74-year-old president announced the news via Twitter. "We will overcome this together", he wrote.
This news comes shortly after Hope Hicks, Trump's adviser, tested positive for COVID-19. Hicks had traveled frequently with the president and accompanied him to the first debate in the presidential race on Tuesday in Ohio, against Joe Biden of the Democratic Party.
Trump's doctor, Sean Conley, has released a statement saying the president and first lady are doing well at the moment.
Trump, who has been regularly tested for the virus, had a busy schedule in recent weeks on the campaign trail, holding rallies with thousands of people despite warnings from health experts against large gatherings.
He has been widely criticized for his response to the coronavirus pandemic, which has so far killed more than 200 people in the US.
