US President Joe Biden has announced more than 500 new sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine and the death in custody of opposition figure Alexei Navalny.
The sanctions will target individuals linked to Navalny's imprisonment and Russia's war machine, Biden has said, the BBC reported. Export restrictions will be imposed on about 100 firms or individuals.
In a statement, President Biden said the sanctions "will ensure" that Russian President Vladimir Putin pays an even higher price for his aggression abroad and repression at home
The sanctions mark a week since Navalny died in an Arctic Circle prison. Biden has said there can be "no doubt" that the Russian president was guilty.
"These sanctions will target individuals associated with Navalny's imprisonment, as well as Russia's financial sector, defense industrial base, procurement networks and sanctions evaders across multiple continents. They will ensure that Putin pays an even higher price for his aggression abroad and oppression at home," Biden said.

The EU has also announced sanctions against nearly 200 entities and individuals accused of helping Russia provide weapons, or of involvement in the kidnapping of Ukrainian children, something Moscow denies.
In response, Russia's Foreign Ministry said it had significantly expanded the list of EU officials and politicians banned from entering Russia.
