The Minister of Internal Affairs, Xelal Sveçla, has said that some of the criminals behind Tuesday's attacks in the two northern municipalities, Zubin Potok and North Mitrovica, come from the ranks of Serbian police officers who resigned weeks ago.
Svečla said on Wednesday in a press conference that despite this, Serbian citizens in the municipalities in the north did not respond to the attacks.
"We already have the first data collected from the field, either by the law enforcement, or by the Intelligence, which tells us that some of these criminals come from the ranks of former members of the Kosovo Police. Once again, what we have said was proven that the conflict and division in these municipalities is not between two ethnic groups, but on one side are the citizens and on the other side are the extremist criminal banks. The citizens of Kosovo living in those municipalities did not come out to support the criminals. It was proved once again that the citizens did not support the crime", said Sveçla.
According to him, stun grenades, hand grenades and firearms were used in Tuesday's attacks.
"The Kosovo Police, in cooperation with the Special Prosecutor's Office, have described this case as an attack on the constitutional order, the commission of terrorist acts, arson and unauthorized possession of weapons," said the Minister of the Interior.
He announced that the situation there is now calm.

Sveçla: Every tension in the north happens because of Belgrade's criminal decisions
Minister Sveçla stated that the Kosovo Police has all the necessary capacities to guarantee the necessary processes in Kosovo.
"Moreover, normally it is the responsible institutions that make decisions. We are waiting for the plan of the CEC regarding the planned activities for this process to be successful. Based on this plan, the Police makes evaluations and recommendations for political decision-making institutions, which ends with the president's decision", he declared.
On Tuesday in Zubin-Potok and North Mitrovica, municipal election officials and police officers, while trying to open the offices of the Municipal Electoral Commissions, were attacked with stun grenades and shots in the air, by unknown persons. As a result of this, they have been unable to continue the preparatory process for the extraordinary elections in the north.
