Children in the village of Kufcë in the Gjilan municipality have been without transportation since December. For more than two months, they have been forced to walk up to four kilometers to reach school, while parents express their concern for the safety of their children.
The non-approval of the budget in the Municipality of Gjilan has left the children of the village of Kufcë without school transportation.
Since December, they have been forced to walk up to four kilometers to reach school, after the company that provided this service for the last three years discontinued it due to the Municipality's failure to renew the contract.
Parents express concern for the safety of their children, for this reason, they say they are forced to accompany them to school every day.
"There are so many stray dogs. The little children have to get up early, go and come back. And so the second shift, the same problem. There is no safety to walk, there is no sidewalk, the road is in a catastrophic state," said Muharrem Bunjaku.
"We have it harder than ever at school. Every day, someone has to drop them off, go pick them up. They are being let out late, there are so many dogs on the street, we don't dare leave them alone," said Emine Rexhepi.
The Director of Education in Gjilan, Shpend Nuhiu, said that due to a lack of funds, signing contracts is not possible for now.
"We as MED have processed all procurement requests and they have continued with the procedures. However, now, due to the lack of budget, even though most operators have been awarded contracts, the funds are not available as a result of the non-voting of the budget by the LDK and PDK parties in the Municipal Assembly of Gjilan. For this reason, it is impossible to conclude contracts, as these are large contracts," Nuhiu declared.

The Mayor of the Municipal Assembly of Gjilan, Kushtrim Kadriu, said that the situation is a consequence of mismanagement by the local government.
"For months now, there has been pressure on citizens and councilors by the government with the sole purpose of covering up the great work they have done in the city. We must be very clear that we are dealing with a very weak administration. Opposition councilors are stopping the financial bleeding that is happening in our city," said Kadriu.
Political clashes between the government and the opposition have left Gjilan the only municipality without an approved budget for 2025.
