The Student List candidate from Kosovo, Jugoslav Gashiq, said on November 7 that there will be no cooperation with the Serbian List, because, as he explained, “with someone who has all this time been the main culprit and responsible for the position that Serbs are in, there really can be no cooperation.”

The Student List, which emerged from anti-government protests in Serbia, won the snap parliamentary elections in Serbia in late October, ousting former Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and his party, the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), from power after 14 years.

For more than a decade, the Serbian List, the largest party of Kosovo Serbs, has dominated the political representation of this community in Kosovo.

This party was formed with the support of the SNS and former Serbian President Vučić, with whose support it has operated so far in Kosovo.

In the Kosovo Assembly, it has nine out of ten seats reserved for the Serbian community, while also leading all municipalities inhabited by a Serbian majority in Kosovo.

Gasic repeated the position he had expressed at the end of October on the local radio station Kim in Kosovo, that the Serbian List was the "implementer of SNS policies" in Kosovo, adding that "we do not want any contact or cooperation with them."

"They have certain institutional positions, which we cannot influence, but these positions will not protect them from possible criminal liability for the actions they have committed. There are various mechanisms, but the most important thing is that they will be kept under control," Gašić told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS).

According to him, those who are guilty of "the situation the Serbian people are in" have no moral right "to talk about what someone else should do."

Gasic urged Serbs to remain calm "as no financial aid will be cut off."

"The message for Serbs here is that during this transition period, while we have not yet effectively taken power, they should not fall prey to various rumors coming from the Serbian List, that they will be left without salaries, without social assistance, that we will allegedly betray Kosovo, and so on," emphasized Gashiq.

Speaking about the stance of the outgoing government in Belgrade towards Serbs in Kosovo, he said that the ruling authorities from the SNS have proclaimed that they have taken care of Serbs in Kosovo, but in reality, according to Gashiq, this government has betrayed the national interests of Serbs.

Gasic also spoke about the dialogue process between Kosovo and Serbia, which is mediated by the European Union. According to him, representatives of the new government in Serbia will review all agreements reached between the parties through the Brussels Agreement.

Regarding the dialogue on the normalization of relations, the leader of the Student List, Ilija Srdanović, previously told REL that continuing the dialogue on the "issue of Kosovo and Metohija" is part of its plan.

Other international agreements will also be under review, according to Gashiqi, so that the new authorities can correct everything negative that is possible to correct.

"We are fully aware of the way the previous government [in Belgrade] has behaved towards the people of Kosovo and Metohija. Their dignity has been taken away, they have been faced with pressure, imposition of political will and blackmail through workplaces. If nothing else, I expect that very soon, as some of the first results, we will see the liberation and freedom of the people to at least express their opinion and, in this way, to restore the dignity that has been lost," said Gashiq.

The Student List won 52.54 percent of the vote in the October 25 elections, while Vučić's SNS received 39.29 percent.

Electoral authorities in Serbia announced the final election results earlier this week, paving the way for the formation of new institutions.

The Student List is expected to form Serbia's new government alone, but it is not yet known who its candidate for prime minister will be and it has not presented a clear political program.
