The Albanian national flag can be used in six municipalities of Montenegro

The red and black flag will also be used in the municipalities of Montenegro where Albanians are less than five percent of the population. This is thanks to the new law on the use of national symbols in Montenegro, which, according to experts, eliminates the shortcomings of the previous law, reports 'Voice of America'. By means of this law, apart from Tuz and Ulcin, Albanians will have the right to fly the red and black flag also in Tivar, Plavë, Guci and Rozhajë.

The new law on the use of national symbols in Montenegro, as experts say, eliminates the shortcomings of the previous law, which often caused misinterpretations of various forms. The new law for the first time enables national symbols to be used even in those areas where the participation of minorities is at the level of 5 percent.

The director general at the Minister for Human and Minority Rights, Leon Gjokaj, told 'Voice of America' that with this law a big step forward has been made in terms of preserving and revealing the identity of minority peoples in all those municipalities where they constitute the majority, i.e. also in those municipalities where the minority constitutes a significant percentage which has been translated as in the case of the official use of the language to a 5 percent.

The free use of national symbols will not only be in Tuz and Ulcinj, national symbols will be used for state and national holidays in Tivar, Rozhajë, Plavë and Guci. Gjokaj says that, as far as the private use of the national flag is concerned, either at home or in any other private event, it can be used quite freely. As for the state institutions, a big step forward has also been made, since with the old law the use of the flag was limited, whereas today, in all public institutions in the above-mentioned municipalities, the use of national symbols of minorities will to be free but also obliged next to state symbols.
