Interest in solar energy is increasing in Albania, the Government guarantees buyers

In order for the country not to face the high cost of importing energy during droughts, the government of Albania is promoting the diversification of sources for energy production, in order to mitigate 100% dependence on water.

The Ministry of Energy of Albania says that due to the climate, solar energy has the highest yield. The first requests for generators up to 2 megawatts or the size of a small hydro plant have arrived.

"The Ministry has registered more than 10 entities for the granting of authorizations in an accelerated manner. If the process continues normally, the beginning of next year or this time next year we will have them installed", said Entela Cipa, Minister of Energy and Industry, reports TCH.

For these investments, the government guarantees the purchase of energy at a price to be determined by ERE. While for larger investments, the technical and financial assistance of the Stock Exchange is offered.

"They go through the auction, Berzh will assist 60% of the investment, it is about 30-50 mega", says Cipa.

The first investments in wind production, such as the wind park in Tepelena, will require more time. "It's a bit more difficult because it requires measurements for 1 to 2 years to calculate the wind," she says further.

While within the year 2020, when the Trans Adriatic gas pipeline starts work, the government aims to find the investment to put the Vlora TPP into operation through natural gas.
