In more than 10 municipalities, the number of out-of-country voters for the October local elections is greater or close to the difference in votes between the leading candidates in the local elections four years ago, according to statistics published by Eugen Cakolli, a senior researcher at the Democratic Institute of Kosovo.
Cakolli said that these statistics could make diaspora votes decisive for many municipalities.
"In the elections of October 12, the mayors of many municipalities and other local policies could be determined by the votes of citizens living abroad. Among the 10 municipalities with the highest percentage of voters abroad in relation to the total number, none of them are "large" municipalities. They include: Junik (21.95%), Malisheva (10.59%), Mamusha (8.64%), Hani i Elezit (6.67%), Istog (5.51%), Dragash (5.34%), Deçan (5.30%), Kaçanik (4.15%), Shtime (3.53%) and Kamenica (3.87%). And even, in almost each of these 10 municipalities, but also in many others, the number of voters abroad for these elections is greater (or close to it) than the difference in votes between the first two candidates in the 2021 local elections," he wrote on Facebook.
Today, the Central Election Commission certified the voter list for the local elections. On October 12, 2 million 69 thousand 95 people will be eligible to vote. Of this total, 25 million 105 thousand 43 citizens will vote within Kosovo and 993 thousand XNUMX by mail.
