Bekim Salihu from the GAP Institute has called the promise of the mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, that next year the capital will have an electric tram on the line to Fushë-Kosovo, paradoxical.
According to him, the problem does not lie in the idea of a tram, but in the promise that it will be realized next year, without any procedural or financial details.
"The promise for the tram was not paradoxical because the tram was promised, but because it was promised to be implemented for the next year. Is it the budget? No. Initially, Pristina is unable to approve the budget and the chances are high that it will not approve it this year either by September 30, as the law provides and as happened in the previous year. In a situation where lockers are not even provided in schools, the tram is being planned. This is paradoxical," Salihu said on the show "Elections in the Time" where the promises of the candidates for mayors are being discussed.
He added that there is no feasibility study on the cost, the routes the tram will travel, the potential users, or the impact on traffic.
"On the one hand, the mayor says that 32 new buses are very close to arriving, on the other hand, he promises a tram. These are promises without any procedural or financial basis, given only for pomp or political advantage," Salihu concluded.
