Rama on PDK's complaint to ECAP: A mockery of the electoral process

The Secretary General of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Alim Rama, has called the complaint of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) to the Electoral Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP) regarding the election process in Mitrovica a "farce being made of the electoral process."

The PDK has requested a re-vote in its complaint after verification at the Municipal Counting Center was interrupted yesterday due to some ballots that did not match the serial number of the polling stations. This prompted numerous reactions. This afternoon, the Prosecutor's Office ordered that verification be resumed.

The LVV secretary insists that no serious irregularities were reported on election day.

"When I was a member of the CEC, it was my request that the serial number be set. They (PDK) probably have experience and have used the 'Bulgarian train', but we have not had any reporting during the election days. They were satisfied with the exit polls, but not with the results of the ballot boxes," Rama said on KTV's "Interaktiv".

He added that any suspicion of irregularities can be verified transparently by the relevant authorities and that external interference is unacceptable.

"No instance should interfere in the electoral process. The prosecutor's entry into the Counting and Results Center in Mitrovica without an invitation from the CEC is an attempt at interference. No one dares to enter there from the street," Rama stressed.

According to him, claims of "technical errors" do not violate the integrity of the elections, as the ballots have numerous security elements.

"The ballot, in addition to the serial number, has microprinting and ultraviolet protection. The process was monitored by representatives of all parties, and no one raised any objections after the elections," he added.

Rama accused PDK of not accepting the results and of remaining silent about irregularities in the municipalities where it won.

"The PDK is not saying that doctors issued false certificates for assisted voting in Kaçanik, nor that in the first round 10-15% voted with assistance in Han i Elezit. There is a tendency to not accept the result (the reaction to Mitrovica)," Rama concluded.
