Baraliu on technical errors in ballots: Irresponsibility and failure of the CEC

Mazllum Baraliu

The former chairman of the Central Election Commission, Mazllum Baraliu, has called the technical errors found in the ballots in South Mitrovica and Gjakova failures of the CEC.

In the "Interaktiv" show on KTV, Baraliu also called the formation of a special commission by the CEC to deal with the evaluation of ballots in which differences in their serial numbers were encountered fair.

"It is definitely irresponsibility and failure of the CEC. Of course, all members of the CEC should go there. They were there and did not do their job. They have no other job than to monitor the process of printing the ballots. They did not do it. Now they are making the commission more or less post-testum, but anyway they are right and it would be a lesson. It is not the only mistake, there are other mistakes that have been made by the CEC. We also have a change of addresses, not only within the city but also from city to city", declared Baraliu.

According to him, due to the CEC's mistakes, many citizens feel disappointed and are giving up voting.

Baraliu further said that the CEC's mistake is also not cleaning the voter lists, which it has four years to do.

"People have not been cleared from the list, there are people who are in the other world, they appear there, then this gives another opportunity to abuse the vote. So it gives someone the opportunity to vote in place of that person who is no longer alive. All of these are elements that the CEC has had to work on for four years," declared Baraliu.

During the verification of votes for mayor in Mitrovica, ballots with serial numbers that do not match the respective polling stations, as well as ballots without serial numbers, were identified.

After this, the Prosecutor's Office ordered that the vote verification process in this municipality be suspended, to then allow its resumption, after clarifications that were reportedly received from the CEC and the company that printed the ballots.

According to the CEC, errors in the serial numbers of ballots were not only made in the municipalities of South Mitrovica and Gjakova, but also in those distributed in other municipalities.

Baraliu also commented on Memli Krasniqi's resignation from the position of PDK chairman. Baraliu called Krasniqi's decision to resign a positive move.

Memli Krasniqi resigned from the position of chairman, five months after receiving confirmation for a second term as head of the Democratic Party. He said he is doing this as a step of reflection and responsibility to create new momentum for the PDK.
