With the presentation of candidates for mayors, the Democratic League of Kosovo has opened the campaign for the local elections on October 12 with a rally at the Youth Palace in Pristina. The leader of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, has criticized the central level, as according to him, it has hindered the work of the mayors of the municipalities where this party has led in the last four years.
The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, said on Saturday at the opening of the campaign for the October 12 local elections that the mayors of municipalities from this party's ranks in the last mandate have faced obstacles from the central government, but according to him, the LDK has never stopped working.
He described the launch of the campaign, on Saturday with the rally in Pristina, as the opening of a new chapter.
"They have hindered them, but these have not stopped. They have blocked them, but these have succeeded," said Abdixhiku, referring to the Government as an obstacle.
For this, according to him, the strong return of the LDK is necessary.
"It is time to stand up again. Everywhere in Kosovo, with a dream, with a hope and with a call that never stops LDK yesterday, LDK today, LDK forever. From Anamorava to Llap from the Drini side to Shala, the return of LDK to municipalities that need development is a patriotic mission, it is a national mission", said Lumir Abdixhiku.
As he introduced the mayoral candidates one by one, he emphasized that the LDK offers people who build the state, not who destroy it.
"We create not by destroying the state but by making it, not by isolating them but by opening it, not by humiliating the other but by bringing them closer, not by occupying the municipality but by loving it, and this is the reason why the citizens of Kosovo return to LDK after every storm. In us they find people who make the state, not those who destroy the state, in us they find people who love the constitution, not those who violate it. In us they find people who make alliances with the outside world, not those who close their doors to it," Abdixhiku said.
And the mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, who is running for a second term, has promised to continue "the transformation of Pristina into a smart city."
"And where is there a greater feeling than being here, where you gave me confidence and filled me with positive energy to enter the colossal transformation of our capital where the citizens are the people of all of Kosovo. This colossal transformation has already laid the foundations and is setting the pillars. And we all feel it everywhere, with the implementation of the promised projects that we will continue until their full realization. There is no one who can stop us," he said.
He also spoke about the projects he intends to implement in the next mandate, if re-elected.
"Our motto, BEYOND, is the name of our journey. We are BEYOND with infrastructure as well. The concept we have installed in the capital is that public lighting will be smart lighting, which knows how to economize on unused energy. This translates into fewer electricity bills, more budget for necessary investments elsewhere," said Rama.
