Democratic League of Kosovo candidate for MP, Hykmete Bajrami, has said that the decline in citizen turnout in the June 7 elections is a clear message for political parties.
According to her, citizens punished Vetëvendosje, whose vote share dropped from 51 percent to 43, but also the opposition parties, who did not gain many votes.
"Not voting is also a clear message to each of us. I read this result as a civic protest! Their abstention is a call for reflection and accountability as to why we came to the situation where we are holding elections to go to elections again," she wrote on Facebook on Tuesday. "At the same time, they also clearly told us that more work, more seriousness and more dedication are needed for them to see us as a solution."
She said that it is high time for political parties to think beyond the chairs.
"And the result of these elections is a call for reflection because, if we want to be honest with ourselves, we have clearly lost somewhere. The Democratic League of Kosovo is more than a pair of elections, more than a result and more than a political episode, so deep reflection is needed to come back stronger," she added.

With more than 20 percent of polling stations counted, Bajrami emerged as one of the four most voted LDK MPs.
The LDK, compared to December, recorded an increase of about four percent. The first party remains VV with 43 percent, while the second PDK with 21 percent.
