Sefaj: Kurti, the first prime minister to defend those accused of corruption

Ali Sefaj, a political expert, has criticized the Kurti Government, saying that for the first time in Kosovo, a prime minister is defending those accused of corruption, instead of protecting whistleblowers and fighting corrupt phenomena.

According to Sefaj, from the public statements and the "media war" waged by the government, it is often unclear whether the aim was to fight corruption or to attack the Prosecutor's Office. He emphasized that, as an institutional official with a role similar to that of whistleblowers, he has direct knowledge of how these cases were handled.

"It is the first government that has stripped whistleblowers of their protection, even though it was obliged to protect them. In fact, people loyal to the government cabinet have been placed in the positions of whistleblower officials," Sefaj declared in the "Elections in the Time" debate.

He added that most whistleblowers who have come forward have initially reported suspected cases of corruption to the relevant ministers and, in some cases, even to the prime minister himself, given that these were cases involving millions of dollars.

According to Sefaj, instead of treating these cases seriously and protecting whistleblowers, the prime minister has turned them over to people suspected of corruption.

"For the first time, we have a prime minister who defends those accused of corruption," he emphasized.

In the end, Sefaj assessed that, although previous governments have also had problems and suspicious connections, there has never been such an approach before where, according to him, the Police, the media, the Prosecution and the courts are attacked, just because they are carrying out their legal duties.
