The recount of 914 polling stations from the December 28 elections is expected to last from 12 to 14 days. The process is taking place at the Counting and Results Center (CNR), where the counting is taking place at 20 tables and within a day, an average of about 80 ballot boxes are planned to be recounted, the spokesperson for the Central Election Commission, Valmir Elezi, has announced.
The recount of ballots has already begun at the CNR according to the list of polling stations for which the CEC made a decision to recount at Tuesday's meeting.
In total, the CEC has decided to recount 914 polling stations out of the 2,557 that were in total in the regular voting process in the elections held on December 28, which accounts for about 36 percent of polling stations.
According to the CEC decision, 100 percent of polling stations will be recounted in 10 municipalities. These are: Dragash, Kaçanik, Leposaviq, Prizren, Skenderaj, Shtime, Ferizaj, Vushtrri, Mamushë and Ranilug. Meanwhile, 10 percent of polling stations will be recounted in 28 other municipalities: Deçan, Gjakova, Gllogovc, Gjilan, Istog, Klina, Fushë Kosovë, Kamenica, South Mitrovica, Lipjan, Novo Brdo, Obiliq, Rahovec, Peja, Podujevo, Pristina, Shtërpcë, Suhareka, Viti, Zubin-Potok, Zvecan, Malisheva, Junik, Hani i Elezit, Gracanica, Partesh, Kllokot and North Mitrovica.
This decision by the CEC comes after findings from the verification of votes of candidates for deputies in 33 polling stations, where it was determined that the votes counted in the Municipal Counting Centers do not match the number of votes recorded on the ballots.
The CEC has emphasized that the recount of votes aims to guarantee the accuracy and integrity of the electoral process, aiming to verify every vote and ensure that the final result fairly and reliably reflects the will of the citizens.
This process is expected to delay the final announcement of the results and then their certification.
