After the election results, changes are seen as necessary in the opposition

Accountability and responsibility have been demanded from the leadership of the opposition parties that did not achieve the result they aimed for in the early elections. Representatives of the LDK, the party that suffered the greatest decline, have said that the result is a consequence of a lack of reflection despite previous losses. And experts on political developments say that the opposition lacks a charismatic leader who mobilizes and truly challenges the government.

Calls for reforms within the opposition parties, starting with their leadership, have been made following the results they received in Sunday's elections. 

The biggest drop compared to the February 9 elections was recorded by the Democratic League, receiving 13,57 percent of the votes, or 119,201 votes. In the elections at the beginning of the year, the LDK was at the level of 171,357 votes or 18,27 percent. 

The chairman of this party, Lumir Abdixhiku, took responsibility for the result on the night of December 28. He announced that in the coming days he would invite the party Assembly to review all issues and responsibilities as chairman, including his resignation. 

Former LDK vice-chairman Agim Veliu, who was not included in the list of MPs for these elections, although he requested it from the party, wrote on Tuesday saying that the LDK's consecutive losses are no coincidence.

"They are a clear political verdict. Not reflecting on them is no longer a mistake - it is a refusal of responsibility. A party that seeks the trust of citizens cannot behave as if the losses have no author. The closure to criticism, the lack of analysis and the capture of decision-making have severely damaged the party and have taken it far away from its mission," said Veliu.

Even Arben Gashi, LDK's candidate for MP, has called for reflection.

The Democratic Party did not achieve the growth it was aiming for either, coming in second with 20,98 percent or over 184 thousand votes, a result roughly similar to that at the beginning of the year. 

In the February 9 elections, PDK received a total of 196,474 votes or 20.9 percent.

The chairman of the PDK, Bedri Hamza, one day after the elections, announced reforms in the party, which he said would start from the grassroots. 

And, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, based on preliminary results, has managed to cross the electoral threshold by 5,66.

The leader of this party, Ramush Haradinaj, has also warned of reflection. 

Analyst Arbnor Sadiku says that major changes are needed in opposition political entities.

"The opposition has suffered an electoral fiasco and of course it should reflect on this, so to speak, by changing the methods of being an opposition and by changing the leadership and the fact that this current leadership has shown that it does not have the potential power to defeat Albin Kurti and this was also seen in the last elections," said Sadiku. 

And, lawyer Arianit Koci has assessed that the leaders of the opposition parties should resign.

"The problem remains the opposition. There is a lack of a charismatic leader who mobilizes and truly challenges the government. Without this weight, the government loses pressure and efficiency. In this situation, the state is not doing well. And as we all see - we are stuck," said Koci.  

According to preliminary results published by the Central Election Commission, the LVV recorded the largest increase, winning 49 percent with over 433 thousand votes. Translated into mandates, this party is expected to have 56 deputies, eight more than in the last legislature. And, the three opposition parties together will have 44 deputies.
