Maloku: Our farmers are the worst off in the region

Adil Maloku

One of the main problems facing farms, according to the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, is the incorrect approach of daily policies towards farmers.

Adil Maloku, a candidate for MP from AAK, said this on the show "Elections in the Time", where according to him, farmers are in a way disconnected from the reality in which we live.

He said that AAK, within its framework, has a curriculum for the agricultural production industry.

"Increasing subsidies for farmers, providing additional forms of financing for farmers, because farmers lack modern equipment in agriculture. Agriculture globally is advancing extremely much and if we look at our farmers, they have lagged far behind with agricultural machinery and other equipment. Through various trainings and various subsidies, farmers will increase their level of advancement, because we are in the worst region. There will be a lot of help, support and creation of a climate for the development of farmers," said Maloku.

He also mentioned the European Union's measures, which he said have significantly damaged agriculture, singling out the irrigation system as a problem. According to him, AAK has promised to allocate 100 million euros for canals and irrigation systems.

"Farmers have also been greatly harmed by the European Union's measures, which means that our country has lost 800 million euros dedicated, but which are currently suspended. Part of them would go to invest in agriculture, but unfortunately, when it takes time and our neighbors take it, they are advancing both with agricultural tools and equipment, and we are stagnating. Albania alone invested 135 million euros last year, benefited from the European Union. So, as an Alliance, we see the irrigation system in Kosovo as a major problem. Due to the severe drought, we cannot irrigate our lands, even though we are a country that has a large amount of water. Therefore, as an Alliance, we have planned to allocate 100 million euros for canals and irrigation systems for the next four years," he said.

Maloku also said that the problems in agriculture are due to the fact that the people who led the Ministry of Agriculture did not have the proper preparation.
