Sony introduces a super 48 MP smartphone camera

Sony has introduced a new CMOS image sensor for smartphones.

It is called IMX596 and has 48 megapixels, each of them 0.8 micrometer or 0.0008 millimeters, which is expected to arrive in new smartphones from September of this year, 2018, reports koha.net.

Officials from Sony have said during a press conference that increasing the number of pixels will increase the quality of photos even when the devices use zoom.

The first smartphone with a 48 MP camera is expected to be the Xperia XZ3, although this is not entirely certain as there have been reports that it could also be the Xperia XZ2 Premium.
