Lenovo updates ThinkPad X1 laptops

Ahead of CES 2020 in Las Vegas, Lenovo has refreshed its premium line of ThinkPad X1 laptops. The company previously updated the ThinkPad X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga in August of last year, so there are no drastic design changes this time, reports Engadget.

Like the previous generation models, the new laptops also have Intel's latest generation "Ice Lake" processors and up to 16GB of RAM. The novelty is the possibility to configure both laptops with storage space up to 2TB. Lenovo has also tweaked the keyboards of both models, adding functional buttons (allowing you to quickly start and end voice-over IP calls).

Perhaps the biggest addition is the ability to fit both laptops with new 1080p and 500 nit brightness displays, which also feature PrivacyGuard technology. These screens will prevent other people from looking at the screen over your shoulder to see what you are working on, KOHA Ditore writes. Lenovo has previously offered the PrivacyGuard option for screens on some of its more expensive ThinkPad models, but this is the first time they're available on the mainstream X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga models.

Except as noted above, both laptops are identical to their predecessors. Lenovo again claims that battery life is around 18.5 hours for the X1 Carbon and around 15 hours for the X1 Yoga. The laptops will be available in 2020, with prices starting at $1499 for the X1 Carbon and $1599 for the X1 Yoga.
