Google launches Street View in Kosovo

Kosovo has become the newest territory in the Balkans to be added to the service. Google Street View, marking one of Google Europe's most significant expansions in the region.

After about two years of recordings and a long wait, the service finally became available this month and the territory of Kosovo has now been mapped with Google's most advanced technology. 

The photography was taken from July 2025 to May 2026, using Google's fourth-generation cameras. Some of the images, taken in October 2025, show Kosovo covered in heavy snowfall, including areas around Pristina and part of the Dukagjini Plain. Despite the difficult weather, the project was not interrupted, as Google teams used portable cameras specially designed for such conditions.

An interesting detail is that the famous character Pegman, the Google Street View mascot, appears differently in some images thanks to a collaboration between singer Dua Lipa, the Service95 platform and Google Maps, as part of the promotion of various places in several cities, including Pristina.

Kosovo authorities have also given permission to Apple to photograph parts of the cities over the past year, but unlike Google, those images have not yet been published.

Before the launch of Google Street View, the market in Kosovo was partially covered by local initiatives. One of them was Gjirafa.biz, which had photographed part of the territory since 2016.
