A number of women playing online on Scopely's Scrabble Go app say they are being texted by "strange men" in the in-game chat option, the BBC reports.
They start playing, but then they are asked where they live, are they married, and they want to continue talking through other applications such as WhatsApp.
It seems that most of them are followers of romances.
Scopely says the chat feature can be limited to friends only.
One woman, in her 60s, said she was contacted by 2-3 people during the week and they all claimed to be from America. She did not want her name to be made public.
"It was like a script," she says. "They start with, 'What are you doing?' They invite you to the game, then they start texting you. They play very badly, that's why we win and they congratulate us on the victory. They usually say "Can we be friends?", when you say no or when you don't answer, they leave the game."

She believes most of them are fake. English does not appear to be their first language. One of them admitted that he is using his son's picture because he is more handsome. "This is not a dating site," she says.
Scopely says it "does not tolerate any harassment or any bad behavior in their game", so players should report it.
Scrabble Go was launched in March 2020. Scrabble says it has around 2.5 million daily players.
