The Russian antivirus giant Kaspersky Lab has announced that it will leave the United States of America, after the Biden administration stopped the sales and distribution of this software.
The BBC has reported that Kaspersky has stated that it made this decision "as the business opportunities in the US are no longer viable". Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo has stated that Moscow's influence over the company posed a major risk to US infrastructure and services.
Kaspersky, which had operated in the United States for two decades, has denied the allegations. Starting July 20, 2024, Kaspersky will gradually close its US operations and eliminate US-based positions, the Russian company said.
Its website within the US territory has already stopped selling its antivirus and cyber security tools, with a message saying that the purchase is not accessible to US customers. The announcement came after sales and distribution of Kaspersky products were banned in the US.
This antivirus has 31 offices in countries around the world, serving over 400 million users and 270.000 corporate clients in over 200 countries.
