The technology giant Apple has been fined 1.8 billion euros by the European Union for violating competition rules regarding music streaming, "BBC" reports.

Apple had prevented streaming services from informing users of payment options outside Apple's app store, the European Commission said.

Competition Commissioner Margarethe Vestager has said that Apple has abused its dominant position in the market for a decade.

She has ordered the US tech giant to remove all restrictions. Apple has said it will appeal the decision.
