"Gmail is closing", Google is forced to react publicly

Descriptive Text

Google has been "forced" to publicly state that Gmail email is not closed, after a false information spread on the Internet.

The BBC has reported that a post shared on social network X has been viewed at least seven million times, saying that "Gmail will shut down in August".

Google denied the information in X, adding that Gmail "is here to stay".

"Most people believe what they see online and there is a lack of tools and processes to verify the facts," said Richard Bagnall, communications expert.

He added that social networks are acting irresponsibly and sending unfiltered information to the audience.

"This Gmail incident will not be the last we will see," Bagnall said.
