Fifth place at the World Championships for the weightlifter representing Kosovo

The weightlifter representing Kosovo, Kianoush Rostami, has achieved a good result at the World Championships being held in Forde, Norway.

The 2016 Olympic medalist placed fifth on Thursday night with a total lift of 377 kilograms.

He is from Iran, and from this World Cup he represents Kosovo. 

Rostami competed in the 94-kilogram category. He lifted 172 kilograms in the snatch and 205 kilograms in the clean and jerk. 

First place at the World Championships in Norway went to Carlos Nassar, representing Bulgaria. He lifted 395 kilograms. The 21-year-old set a world record in the clean and jerk with 222 kilograms, winning the World Championships for the third time. 

Second place and the silver medal went to Iranian Alireza Moeini with 391 kilograms. He set a world record with 182 kilograms in the snatch.

In third place was Colombian Jokser Albornoz with a total of 390 kilograms. Ali Alipour of Iran was fourth with a total of 387 kilograms, ten more than Rostami of Kosovo. 

Rostami only had a successful clean and jerk on his second attempt with 172 kilograms. In his first attempt, Rostami failed at 172 kilograms, a weight he later improved. In his third attempt, he tried 177 kilograms, but was unsuccessful. 

Rostami was seventh in the clean and jerk. His best result was 205 kilograms, achieved on his first attempt. He failed on his second attempt with 216 kilograms and on his third with 217 kilograms.

Rostami is an Olympic gold medalist from Rio 2016. 

He also won a silver medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games, and is also the winner of two gold medals and a silver medal at the World Championships. 

The 34-year-old is a distinguished weightlifter, in a sport that is very underdeveloped in Kosovo.
